Why Somalia: The Crisis Driving This Shipment
World Vision has worked in Somalia since 1993. In addition to health and nutrition, their core focus areas in the country include food security, water and sanitation, education, and child protection. Through decades of conflict and drought, their nutrition programs alone have reached more than 154,000 people.
The need is particularly urgent right now. A third of Somalia's population, roughly 6.5 million people, is now experiencing a hunger crisis according to UN and government estimates. UNICEF projects that close to half a million children could develop severe acute malnutrition this year, with more than 3,500 cases diagnosed just between January and March. These numbers surpass what the country saw during its 2011 and 2022 droughts.
At the same time, international support has fallen sharply: U.S. funding cuts have driven total aid to Somalia down to roughly $531 million in 2025, down from $2.38 billion just three years earlier. Over 250 health facilities have already been forced to close, leaving fewer places for families to turn when they need help. The World Food Programme has only been able to reach about 300,000 of the 2 million people it hoped to support with food aid this year.
Partnering with World Vision lets us direct support to where it's needed most, so Super Vites® reaches the most vulnerable children in their care.
What's In the Shipment
1.9 million servings of Super Vites® are part of this shipment alone, joining the more than 5.1 million that have already been sent to children all around the world.
We’re expecting our shipment to arrive in Somalia by mid-November, and from there, Super Vites® will be distributed through school feeding programs, reaching kids alongside a healthy meal.
Every tablet we send through World Vision contains comprehensive vitamins and minerals, a blend of 28 organic fruits and vegetables, all dosed for children ages 2-12. For a child facing acute malnutrition, consistent access to these nutrients supports growth and immune function, giving them added strength to recover.

World Vision's health and nutrition work in Somalia runs through partnerships with federal and state governments, strengthening local health infrastructure and supplying medical resources to the facilities that serve Somali families.
